High Performance Coaching – Living in Congruence (to the Best Version) of Yourself
Whatever stage in life you are in, whether you are a new business owner or an experienced one, a new or veteran franchisee, I invite you to apply this blog to your life and your story and read it through your own unique lens.
To be honest, up until a few years ago, I never really thought about the word CONGRUENCE. I was travelling along life, doing my thing, and never really thinking too deeply about whether this was the life I wanted to create. Then post-natal happened (that’s a story for another day), and the way I wanted to live moving forward changed.
To me, living in congruence means I am living as the best version of myself, and I am doing so with integrity. It means walking the walk and talking the talk. Have you ever met someone that say’s something, but then acts differently? Or someone who doesn’t hold true to their word and does this repeatedly. To me, it’s a real sticking point.
No matter what the end goal is, congruence is all about showing up and living as the best version of yourself daily and, this is what high performance living is. It means speaking your truth respectfully, living your values, and sometimes saying no, and leaving situations that don’t serve you.
So how do you become more congruent?
Congruence is all about becoming clear on what you want (what is your end goal?), and then creating that life, both intentionally and with purpose.
It’s about asking yourself the following questions:
What do I believe?
What is important to me?
What do I want in my life?
What do I need to change?
‘Ask yourself this question every morning: will who you are now lead you to who you want to be in the future?’ - Brendan Burchard
I want to share a story regarding congruence in my own life. After nearly 15 years, the time came for me to put my franchise shares for sale. A successful dual site franchise store that was doing really well. A few people told me I was crazy, why would I give up something so ‘stable’ and ‘secure’ to build a practise especially with four young children?
My answer: CONGRUENCE
In his book ’The Big Leap’ Gay Hendricks speaks about conquering your fears and taking life to the next level. The book speaks about stepping out of your ‘Zone of Excellence’, to me that is my role as a franchisee and into my ‘Zone of Genius’, my role as a High Performance Coach servicing Franchisees, Leaders and Business Owners.
But, how do you know when you are on the right track?
There will be moments when the pieces of the puzzle begin to fall into place.
Let me tell you a personal story. My eldest daughter Bianca has been undertaking a Leadership and Behavioural Course. It’s all about building resilience in the 21st Century, treating others with respect and them living congruently to the best version of themselves. Hubby and I loved the idea, so we enrolled her in.
It aligns with our values; it is High Performance Coaching for children, and it teaches her the exact principles that as parents we believe are super important. Fast forward to the end of term 1, and our daughter won the ‘Speech and Behavioural and Excellence Award’. So, what is this award, and why did I feel this was super special, not only for her but also for us?
The award takes into account high standards of self- control and self-discipline, good sportsmanship, a commitment to warmly welcome feedback and take prompt action to improve, respect earnt and supported by peers, just to name a few.
As she stood on stage receiving the award, I felt like one of the final pieces of the puzzle in transitioning into a different path for myself and my family was being recognised though our daughter. Watching her receive the award on stage, and the beautiful email that followed from her teacher, made me realise that if I had not begun the journey to live my most congruent self, my daughter most likely would not have been given this opportunity.
All the decisions hubby and I had made over the past few years felt like they were slowly coming together, and it all started from beginning the journey to live my most congruent version of myself, as it is my strongest belief is that if I am leaning into my most congruent self, I am teaching my children to do so as well.
I invite you now to self reflect and consider how living more congruently will elevate you to live a High Performance life. What is one action you can take today to live more congruently. I would love to hear your thoughts….
