Step into Your Power – How to Take Meaningful Action and Overcome Fear
Fear.... that little voice in your head telling you that you’re not good enough, that you’ll fail, that you’re too late to start. Yes, fear is universal, but the problem that most make is that they see fear or feel fear and assume it’s the enemy and the doer or no good.
But…it’s not.
Fear is the gateway to growth but only if you can acknowledge it, thank it and then move forward beyond it.
I remember when I first started public speaking…I was terrified. Ask anyone in my previous team and you know I just didn’t do it, infact I hated it... Why - because of fear!
But, I knew that getting in front of an audience was going to be a game-changer for me, but my mind was filled with doubts.
What if I messed up?
What if they didn’t like me?
What if they judged me because of my turned eye?
But then began the change, the deep work I did and the purposeful way I moved forward knowing that: growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone.
If you want to create change and step into the life you’re meant for, you must embrace fear.
Infact, it’s not negotiable.

So here are a few steps to help you do this that hopefully ease that nervousness around fear for you.
Step 1: Fuel Your Energy to Take Action
The first thing you need to do when it’s time to take action is fuel your energy. This is something I learned early in my career. I was burning the candle at both ends, giving everything to my work, but I had nothing left for myself. And that’s when I realised: without energy, taking action is almost impossible.
When I began taking better care of my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual energy, my performance also changed and my results changed. Whether it’s through exercise, rest or setting boundaries, you have to protect your energy if you want to be productive.
Here’s the thing: if you’re running on empty, taking bold action feels impossible. So, start by identifying where your energy is being drained. And then...plug the leaks. It could be saying no to certain commitments, getting more rest, or simply creating more space for joy.
Step 2: Embrace Your Fears and Use Them as Fuel
Now, let’s talk about fear. It’s normal to feel fear, but it’s not a ideal to let fear control you. When I first started public speaking, fear was at an all-time high. I had all sorts of self-doubt: What if I forget my lines? What if I don’t connect with the audience? What if they don’t relate? What if this…? And what if that?
But then I swapped the meaning I had around fear into something that served me.
From that point on fear became a signal that I was about to do something important. When I pushed through my fear and got on that stage, everything changed. That first speaking gig led to many more and I started building a career that aligned with my true passion and started to build strength around that feeling of fear - recognising that it was in fact serving and teaching me.
So, in your own life ask yourself: What am I fearful of and then lean into that fear.
It’s telling you that you’re stepping into something bigger than yourself.
Step 3: Stay Committed and Take Consistent Action
Taking that first step is important, but commitment is what keeps you going. Trust me, there will be times when you want to quit. You won’t see the results, you may even feel like you are going backwards. Yes, you’ll face setbacks, doubts and days when it feels like it’s all too much. But that’s when commitment matters the most.
When I transitioned into coaching, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. I had setbacks, days when I wanted to give up, lack of clients, lack of self belief but I stayed committed to my vision. Even on the tough days, I showed up and continue to do so today.
So to help you do this, break your goals into smaller tasks and ask yourself:
What’s the one thing I can do today that gets me closer to my goal?
Trust me when I say that small actions add up and over time you’ll build the momentum you need.
Live a successful, purposeful and fully charged life everyday!
