Overwhelmed or Scattered? It’s Not About Time — It’s About Energy

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, scattered, or just plain drained, you know exactly how hard it can be to keep everything together. You’ve got the time to do what needs to be done, but somehow, you never seem to have the energy to match it.

This is the place where most people get stuck, they’re running themselves into the ground, thinking that they just need more time. But...

You DON'T need more time. You NEED more energy!

I’ve worked with hundreds of clients, from business owners to parents juggling work and family and the issue isn’t time. The issue is energy.

The Real Issue: Energy, Not Time

Have you ever had a day where you’re physically exhausted, but you still have plenty of time on the clock? Maybe you’ve even felt like you should be doing more with that time. But your energy is so low, you simply can’t give your best, even if you’ve got hours to spare.

When I talk about high performance, it isn’t about getting more time in your day. It’s about knowing how to protect your energy and use it where it counts. Because, when your energy is running on empty, even tasks you normally enjoy feel like heavy lifting.

Protecting Your Energy: The Key to High Performance

One of the first thing I teach my clients is that high performance begins with energy management, not time management. Sure, time is a factor, but it’s secondary. Without energy, time is useless.

So, how do you manage your energy? Well, it starts with recognising where your energy is being drained. Is it people? Tasks? Or maybe your own mindset?

We all have emotional and mental energy leaks. When we say ‘yes’ to things out of obligation, when we overcommit, or when we don’t set boundaries, we drain our energy. And over time, that leads to burnout. So, protecting your energy is the foundation of creating lasting success.

The Power of Boundaries: Learning to Say ‘No’

This is where I want to tell you that you need to say no.

I know that saying ‘no’ can be difficult. It can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’re a people-pleaser or if you don’t want to disappoint anyone. But setting boundaries is an act of self-respect. It’s about protecting your energy so you can give your best when it really matters.

Every time you say ‘yes’ to something that doesn’t serve you, you’re saying ‘no’ to your energy. Learning to say ‘no’ isn’t just about cutting people off, it’s about prioritising your well-being and choosing what aligns with your goals.

Reflection: Where Are You Leaking Energy?

  • Are you saying yes out of guilt?

  • Are you putting others’ needs before your own?

  • Are there mental or emotional drains that you’ve been holding onto for far too long?

Take a step back and identify where your energy is going. Once you can recognise where it’s being drained, you can start making intentional decisions to stop that leak.

Energy Management = Success

You can have all the time in the world, but if your energy is scattered or drained, nothing will get done. When you prioritise energy over time, everything becomes easier. You’ll feel lighter, more productive, and more focused.
