You Always Have a Choice. That's the Uncomfortable News
You Always Have a Choice. That's the Uncomfortable News.
We love the idea that we have a choice. It sounds like freedom. Until you follow it all the way down, and realise the story where it's all someone else's fault has to go.
The comfortable version and the real one
The comfortable version of choice is "I get to do what I want." The real version is heavier. In almost every situation, even the ones you didn't cause, you still choose your response. The traffic, the difficult colleague, the news you didn't want. You don't choose the event. You choose what you do next. That's not a motivational line. It's the most confronting idea in this work.
Why blame feels better and costs more
Blame is comfortable because it makes the fix someone else's job. But it hands them the controls. Every time you say they made me feel, you make yourself a passenger in your own life. Ownership takes the wheel back. It's not comfortable. It's yours.
Choice is a muscle, not a mood
You don't wait to feel powerful before you act. You make one owned choice, then another, and the sense of control follows. Self-trust is built by evidence, not affirmations.
A question to sit with
Where are you waiting for someone else to change so you can feel better, and what's the one choice that's still yours?
Live a successful, purposeful and fully charged life everyday!
