From Busy to Intentional: Are You Building the Life You Want?

From Busy to Intentional: Are You Building the Life You Want?

We live in a world that celebrates busyness. It’s almost like the busier you are, the more productive you must be, otherwise it feels like you are failing. So many of us fill our day with tasks, meetings and endless to-do lists, convincing ourselves that we are building something meaningful.

But the thing that we fail to understand is that: Busyness doesn’t mean you’re building, quite often, it means you are avoiding what would really move you forward.

When we lack intention, all you’re doing is running in circles. You’re caught up in the whirlwind of activity, but not the kind of activity that creates momentum or long-term change. And that’s where the shift needs to happen.

Congruency: Being Who You Want to Be, Not Who You Are Today

When I first started coaching, I was overwhelmed by the constant pull of 'doing' without truly 'being'. I was trying to fill my calendar, but quite often I felt like I was running in circles. That’s when I realised that my actions weren’t aligned with the person I wanted to become. They were a reflection of who I was at the moment, and who I had been up until this point and for me that wasn’t enough.

Congruency is everything. To build the life you truly want, you need to act in alignment with your future self, not your current state. It's not about trying to replicate what you’ve already done; it’s about leaning into the person you’re becoming, even when it feels scary, uncomfortable and often hard.

The biggest mistake you can make is trying to stay comfortable by only acting in ways that reflect where you are now or how others expect you to show up. Because, real transformation requires you to step into who you want to be next.

Intentional Living: Start with Your Vision, Not Your To-Do List

Intentional living is about aligning your energy and actions with your true purpose. It’s not about filling your days with tasks that keep you busy; it’s about focusing on what actually drives you closer to your vision.

So how do you begin this transformation from busy to intentional?

1. Know What You Want: I always say, You can’t get to where you’re going if you don’t know where you’re headed. The clearer your vision, the easier it is to prioritise your actions.

2. Choose Purpose Over Convenience: It’s easy to say yes to everything that feels urgent or comfortable. But high performers understand that true growth comes from saying no to distractions and saying yes to what matters most.

3. Build Intentional Habits: Once you’re clear on your vision, start building habits that reinforce it. These intentional habits should act as stepping stones, guiding you toward that future version of yourself you’re leaning into.

4. Review Regularly: At the end of each week, ask yourself: 'Did I build, or did I just fill time?' It’s about constant reflection and recalibration. When you focus on building, everything changes, from your energy to your results and right down to the life you begin living.

Live a successful, purposeful, and fully charged life every day!
